Though mixing prints and patterns is considered a fashion faux pas to many, lately I've come to disagree. When done correctly, mixing prints and patterns can make for a notably playful ensemble. This combination look was all over the runways at NYC fashion week and I'm glad to see a rule- breaking trend emerging.
In order to mix appropriately and correctly within an outfit, it is important to create balance. For instance, if you're wearing a striped shirt and leopard print flats then it's necessary to balance it out with a plain, simple jean. If your shirt and pants are two different patterns, you can balance it out with plain shoes, a simple hairstyle, a classic blazer or a plain belt.
Fashionistas beware of the tricky trend; the mixture look is fabulous but can quickly turn into a tangled mess when done so incorrectly.
